AN ACHAEMENID CHALCEDONY CYLINDER SEAL
Circa 5th-Early 4th Century B.C.
With a Persian horseman spearing an infantryman, the horse with a cropped tail and a decorated saddle blanket, the rider wearing folded Persian headgear, tunic and trousers, a bow over his arm which holds the reins, a spear held in his other hand, the bearded infantryman wearing a pleated knee-length garment and a crested helmet, holding a shield and two spears in one hand, a hooked device, possibly a sling, raised in the other hand, with a dog, perhaps a saluki, running along beside the horse, and a winged solar disk in the sky, with the original bronze mount
