Gouache heightened with gold on paper, from a manuscript of poetry, a bearded man wearing a turban making advances at a younger woman, both seated beneath a tree, the verso with couplets in fine black nasta'liq-7 x 4¼in. (17.7 x 10.7cm.)

Lot Essay

Another miniature from this series was sold at Christie's King Street, 23rd April 2002, lot 69. It comes from a dispersed manuscript of a Diwan of Hafez of which another was published by Colnaghi (B.W.Robinson, in Persian and Mughal Art, 1976, no.52, p.75 and 77). Another manuscript with similar miniatures is in the Chester Beatty Library, Dublin (MS299) and in the Topkapi Saray library (H.1010).
