AN APULIAN RED FIGURE COLUMN KRATER ATTRIBUTED TO THE PATERA PAINTER

Side A: draped female seated on rocky outcrop holding mirror and thyrsos, before her stands winged Eros with left foot resting on an Ionic column capital, holding out a phiale, bunch of grapes and wreath, his body bedecked with jewellery including bracelets, anklets and large necklaces looped around his body, details in added white and yellow
Side B: two himation clad youths, each leaning on a staff with white headband, a bound tablet above and fan palmettes in upper corners
Double row of dots framing each panel, with band of tongue above and meander with quartered squares below, the neck with scrolling ivy leaf tendrils, rays around the rim with wave pattern on the overhang, the handle-plates with palmettes
