Torquato Tasso's epic poem Jerusalem Delivered, of 1581, tells the story of the Christian crusades to regain the grave of Christ, and in particular the travails of the Christian knight Tancred who loved the Amazonian Clorinda who fought for the opposing Saracenes.
This particular scene depicts Sophronia and her lover Olinda rescued at the stake by Clorinda, who offers her services to the Saracen king in the coming battle.
