the carved yew and fruitwood figure with articulated eyes, tongue, thumb, head, hands and feet, in leather tunic, hood, boots and red cotton doublet, seated on a fretted stool, a bow in his left hand and a revolving arrow holder at his right, the fusee-driven wood mechanism in the base controlling seven cams -- 16in. The archer lifts an arrow from the revolving holder, his thumb locks it into place as his left arm rises to align with the bow; he then closes one eye as his head bends forwards and he sticks out his tongue in concentration; when the arrow is fired, he lowers both arms, stamps his left foot, turns his head and blinks.
