Designed as a central marquise-cut diamond with a calibré-cut emerald border to the ten marquise-cut diamonds and pavé-set diamond shaped surround, with detachable pendant fitting, circa 1912, brooch 4.9 cm. wide

Lot Essay

The above brooch is interesting beacause it shows characteristics of jewellery from 1905-1910 and yet there are the first signs of the Art Deco influence - five baguette-cut diamonds and the overall symmetry. The other factor is the detachable pendant hoop that was not a usual feature on Belle Epoque jewels.
