An early British teddy bear with golden mohair, clear and black glass eyes with pink painted backs, pronounced clipped muzzle, black stitched nose, mouth and claws, swivel head, jointed limbs and hump, possibly Teddy Toy Company --13¾in. (35cm.) high, circa 1914 (slight general wear, small bald patch on left hand, some nose stitching missing and a few slight holes in hand pads) and two photographs of the original owner, one with this bear (3)

Lot Essay

This bear belongs to John Gilbert Anderson, who was born on the 9th July 1912 in London. He is the great great grandson of the famous marine artist William Anderson, 1757-1837. The small image features John holding this bear with a friend on the beach. The larger photograph features John with a Farnell teddy bear, the whereabouts of the bear is now unknown.
