An early Victorian mahogany mantel clock with date, sweep seconds and ship's bell strike, circa 1850
The drum case with rope-carved sides and on volute support, two doors to the rear, with concave-sided base raised on four bun feet, the white painted Roman dial signed WALTER YONGE/LONDON, with inner concentric date ring and recessed dial above VI for night/day indication, with trident hour and minute hands and arrow hands for date and sweep centre seconds, strike set lever by X, the eight day movement with circular plates, twin chain fusees and cut bimetallic lever balance positioned vertically on the back plate, striking ship's watches with two hammers on a large bell -- 13¾in. (35cm.) high
