The label is possibly that of Charles Baker (1841-1932), a skilled carpenter who specialised in copies of antique furniture. Educated at the 'penny-a-week' school on Guinea Lane, he set up a company in Bath that made 100 chairs for the Banqueting Room in Guildhall and a cabinet for Queen Victoria's doll's house.
