An Empire ormolu quarter repeating carriage timepiece with alarm
Breguet et Fils, No. 3816. Sold 4 February 1826
The architectural case on engine-turned bun feet, one bun foot punch numbered 3816, the underside set with a gilt-brass mask pierced with a basket of stylised flowers, with faded yellow silk backing, the plinth frieze cast with flowerheads and anthemions on a matted ground supporting reeded pilasters, bevelled glasses to the sides, front and rear doors, the engine turned top surmounted by four gilt-brass ball finials and gilt-brass carrying handle hinged in the mouths of lions' heads, the left side with a bronze-patinated push quarter repeat button, the right side with a gilt-metal milled knob for the pull wind alarm, the engine-turned silver dial signed BREGUET ET FILS on the Roman chapter ring with engine-turned centre and blued steel hands (hour hand lacking tip), the gilt mask applied with a rectangular silver plaque at the base numbered No. 3816 and to the right side with an applied gold shield-shaped plaque engraved Reveil for alarm hand adjustment, the reverse of the dial scratch engraved 3816, the reverse of the silver chapter disc punch numbered 3816 B, the movement with four back-pinned pillars, single going barrel, large gilt-brass platform with cut bimetallic compensated balance with parachute suspension to lever escapement, the alarm pulley and steel repeat rackwork planted on the front plate, the back plate punch numbered 3816; sold with Breguet certificate No.3100
