An Empire ormolu striking mantel clock, first quarter 19th century
The breakarch case with foliate cast border mounts and with drapery mount below the white enamel Roman dial (restored, short crack) signed Le Roy hr. du Roi A PARIS, later steel moon hands, on plinth mounted with figures from a domestic interior, with mother suckling a baby, child praying and a cradle, the front mounted with relief panels depicting a mother engaged in teaching her child music, reading and writing respectively, on bun feet decorated with bands of quatreforms, the twin barrel movement with silk suspension and countwheel strike on bell, the back plate mounted with a plaque (positioned upside down) with repeat signature -- 17in. (45cm.) high
