AN ENGLISH HANGER
Mid-17th Century
With curved single-edged blade double-edged towards the point, and struck on each face with a King's head mark, the iron hilt comprising double asymmetrical shell, each half trilobed, the outer, and larger one curved towards the blade, and the inner one towards the hand, small downcurved inverted urn-shaped rear quillon, slender knuckle-guard with urn-shaped centre, deep cap-pommel with beaked heart-shaped top, and staghorn grip with iron ferrule at the bottom, the iron parts encrusted throughout in silver with trellis and dot patterns
