An English mahogany longcase clock
The hood with stepped top and dentil mouldings to the cornice above later carved blind fret panels, with arched glazed panels to the sides and brass capped turned columns flanking the door, with breakarch trunk door and plain plinth on bracket feet (one lacking), the 12in. brass dial with bird and urn spandrels to the silvered chapter ring with half hour markers, matted centre with subsidiary seconds ring marked at intervals of 5 and with an engraved sunburst to the centre, further engraving around the date aperture, with silvered disc to the arch inscribed Jno. Carlyon FALMOUTH, cut steel hands, the five pillar movement with inside countwheel strike on bell, with later spot finishing to the backplate; associated, dial and movement circa 1740, case circa 1780 and with adaptations to top of hood -- 82½in. (210cm.) high
