As he says himself, "I entered the world of engraving almost inevitably." He has practised the art in his home village since 1972, and is now considered to be one of the top five engravers in the world. He works almost exclusively for the gun makers Lebeau-Courally and Hartmann & Weiss, two makers whose products are of the highest quality. If he accepts a commission to engrave it will take between four and five years from the final design stage to completion of the finished product. He has exhibited examples of his designs and works internationally in Germany, Belgium, France, Italy, Sweden, and the United States of America. His work has been written of consistently over the years in books and periodicals.

Further details
This pair of well executed exhibition grade guns, although not by a particular maker, were created by Alain Lovenberg. He received and accepted the order to make the guns in October 1994. The original contract states he was to engrave the barrels with "Créé et réalisé par Alain Lovenberg", yet in the event he only engraved the trigger guards.
The stocks and forends are completed by Patrick Bergen at the time he was working for Lebeau-Courally. He is now Head of the Wood department at FN Herstal (Browning). The other parts of the gun were created and crafted by out-workers under the guidance of Alain Lovenberg. The end result is a truly wonderful pair of exhibition guns which unite the finest of materials with the greatest of skill.
