MARK OF JAMES FRAY, DUBLIN, 1828, RETAILED BY STEWART AND SONS
Shaped circular, on four cast lion's mask and fruiting grapevine feet, the openwork border cast and chased with four vacant cartouches, surrounded by foliage, fruit, flowers and lion's masks with the heads of Flora, Ariadne, Ceres and a follower of Dionysus, the centre with applied cast and chased coat-of-arms below a baron's coronet, within buckled garter engraved with inscription, the back further engraved with the names of the donors, marked underneath, further marked on border, coat-of-arms, and garter, further applied with a plaque engraved 'Stewart and Sons fecerunt Dame St. Dublin'

The inscription reads 'THOMAS LORD MANNERS PRESENTED BY THE OFFICERS OF THE COURT OF CHANCERY IRELAND AS A MARK OF THEIR AFFECTION GRATITUDE AND RESPECT'.
The arms are those of Manners for Thomas Manner-Sutton, 1st Baron Manners (1756-1842), Lord Chancellor of Ireland. He was the fifth son of Lord George Manners-Sutton and his wife Diana and the grandson of John Manners, 3rd Duke of Rutland. He was elected M.P. for Newark-upon-Trent in 1796 and was Solicitor General to the Prince of Wales. In April 1807 he was appointed Lord Chancellor of Ireland and held this office until 31 July 1827.
