The kings and queens modelled as turbanned princes and counsellors, the bishops as camel riders, the knights on horse back, the rooks as elephants with mahouts, the pawns as turbanned warriors, later painted
The king -- 3½in. (9cm.) high; the pawn -- 2in. (5cm.) high
