An Inlaid Celadon Stoneware Ewer
Koryo Dynasty (12th century)
The body of globular form resting on raised circular base and moulded with a slightly curved spout and loop handle with attachment ring, the handle also incised with two channels beside a central raised ridge, and the base of the neck carved with a collar of overlapping leaves, the veins of the leaves rendered by fine incised lines; each side of the ewer inlaid in white and iron slip with a budding and flowering peony medallion within a double-ring border of white and iron slip which are repeated around the base of the spout, and the leaf collar around the base of the neck encircled by a ring of raised dots of white slip, the ewer also decorated by a bright green celadon glaze which pools emerald in color in the recesses and where more thickly applied and with sparse craquelure, six spur marks on glazed base
