OTTOMAN TURKEY, CIRCA 1585
Of bulbous form on short foot, with slightly flairing mouth and simple loop handle, decorated in green, cobalt-blue and bole-red with black outlines, with dense design of split-palmettes forming lattice with vegetal motifs filling the interstices reserved on green and blue grounds, the base with band of stylized marbling, the waist with simple plait and green foliate fringing, the mouth with band of chain-motif, mouth chipped with slight restoration, slight restoration to handle, hairline crack at base

Lot Essay

The elements of the design are exactly the same as those of many fish-scale vessels, but here the ground is plain green or blue rather than being further decorated between the white arabesques with red highlights.
