Lot Essay

Sir Edwin Lutyens' daughter, Mary, remembers her father designing two similar newspaper baskets. This one, the smaller of the two, was made for his eldest daughter, Barbara, when she moved into Lavington Park, Sussex, in 1932. The other basket, designed for his own use, was sold through these Rooms, 5 February 1992, lot 174.

We are grateful to Mary Lutyens for her kind assistance in the preparation of this catalogue entry
