An Octagonal Lacquered-wood Tray Inlaid with Mother-of-pearl
Joseon dynasty (late 19th-early 20th century)
With eight outward-slanting walls rising from the hexagonal interior and resting on a bracket-footed, low hexagonal base, the interior well inlaid with a medallion of confronted cranes and peach trees within a double-line border and on each of the interior facets with felicity and longevity characters, the exterior facets inlaid with rectangular panels of chrysanthemums, fungus, bamboo, cherry boughs, pinks, orchids and pine to complete the auspicious imagery, the grounds of the inlaid panels covered by black lacquer and the rim with traces of the original red lacquer
