An Officer's Albert Shako of the Madras Infantry

A very good shako of the 2nd Native Infantry with superb gilt plate mounted with a strap within a wreath, inscribed ASSAYE and NAGPORE, above the Dragon and scroll inscribed CHINA, good tapered corded chin-chain on velvet-lined backing, secured by rosettes, and white-over-red pompom in its ornate gilt socket (a small area of material missing beneath one rosette).

Lot Essay

This shako belonged to Captain William Touche who served with the 2nd Madras N.I. from 1840 until 1852. He died of cholera at Madras in November 1853.
