Lot Essay

This chair was inspired by the 'antique' furniture designed by Georges Jacob (d. 1814) in the 'Empire' style and popularised by C. Percier and F. Fontaine's Receuil de Décorations Intérieures, 1801.

An identical chair was sold in these rooms, 20 February 1992, lot 113, and a similar suite, including a chaise longue, was sold here 12 November 1987, lot 69
