AN ORNAMENTAL STEEL LOCKPLATE
Probably German, Gothic style
Of quadrilobe form, elaborately pierced overall with 'flamboyant' tracery, the central section with a parcel-gilt silver group of the Virgin and Child flanked by Saints Ursula and Barbara, all above a group of three angels adoring the Christ child, with figures of Saints Peter and Paul in niches to the right and left, and Saint George slaying the dragon below; cast in numerous sections; on a modern, textile-covered mount with an inventory number 'Ei 726' and a hinged wooden support to the reverse
Some wear to gilding; very minor areas of oxidisation
