An unusual 19th-Century mahogany microscope slide cabinet, the lid with folding front, secured by two brass sliding catches, rising to reveal five plush-lined trays, four trays divided into three sub-compartments to contain twelve standard slides, one tray having two sub-compartments, each tray with ebony pull and containing approximately one hundred and fifty slides with named labels under Norman (including four prize medal samples), Watson, Richard Souter, Michael Farraday, Fred Enock, Pritchard, C.M. Topping, A. Lister (of Erdington, Birmingham), Russell, James How, J.A. Coultas, F.P. Smith, Charles L. Cock of Belfast and other preparers, some unnamed, subjects include entomology, mineralogy, botany, and specialised slides for foraminifera, Maltwood's finder, one slide with ivory cover slip, and another by A. Lister showing Egyptian mummy cloth, another slide with a tinoporus baculatus arrangement from the South Sea Islands with label inscribed From the Collection of the late Dr. J.
