An Unusual Cased 54-Bore Silver-Mounted Flintlock Pistol In The English Style

With tapering etched twist barrel in the Turkish manner decorated with gold scrollwork and with brass fore-sight, engraved tang, signed rounded lock with safety-catch, moulded walnut full stock carved with a shell in relief behind the barrel tang, full silver mounts including pierced rococo side-plate engraved 'WB 1798', and grotesque mask butt-cap, silver ramrod-pipes, and original ramrod with worm: in lined and fitted oak case for a pair of pistols, with flint pouch and copper powder-flask, the lid with trade label of Mathew Spencer of Lynn, and flush-fitting carrying handle, its escutcheon engraved 'W.B 1840'
