A manuscript describing circumstances, causes and solutions regarding the crisis of the Vereenigde Oostindische Compagnie in the 18th Century, circa 1790
pen and brown ink, on 46 handnumbered pages, in thin board binding with blue paper covers, watermark Pro Patria with countermark letters TH (HT?), the last page describing the manuscript to have been presented to the main participants of the Amsterdam Chamber of the United East India Company on 14 June 1790, pages 335 x 205mm.
This anonymous manuscript includes many text corrections and additions in the same hand, indicating that it would not be a handwritten duplicate of another manuscript, but the original manuscript that may have been duplicated to be presented to the V.O.C. chamber in Amsterdam. This would explain why it remained unsigned. The manuscript gives a fascinating insight into the dealings of the V.O.C. in the 18th Century, recording the downfall of the Dutch economy and the ideas of management of the V.O.C. at the time.
