Lot Essay

This copies a detail of Giovanni Battista Pittoni's painting Hannibal swearing revenge against the Romans, a composition known through a number of painted versions (F. Zava Bocazzi, Pittoni. L'Opera completa, Venice, 1979, nos. 94, 104, 147 and 243, figs. 74-84).
