APOLLO 17 – Photograph signed. 1972.

Photograph of Lunar Module Challenger and the U.S. flag resting on the Moon, inscribed humankind's final words on the Moon in the 20th century.

SIGNED and INSCRIBED by Gene CERNAN: "I'd like to just say what I believe history will record that America's challenge of today has forged man's destiny of tomorrow. And, as we leave the Moon at Taurus-Littrow, we leave as we came and God willing as we shall return, with peace and hope for all mankind. God Speed the Crew of Apollo XVII. Gene Cernan, Apollo XVII, Commander, Dec 1972." The United States flag can be seen to the left of Lunar Module Challenger. Almost the full South Massif mountain can be seen in the background. Actual linear tracks of boulders that have rolled down this Massif during the ancient past are visible in this ultra-sharp image.

Large color photograph, 16 by 20 inches.
