Lot Essay

Arthur Wellington Fowles was born in Ryde where he lived and worked all his life. His paintings of yachts racing reflect his passion for the sea, and for Ryde itself. He also excelled in subjects associated with Queen Victoria's frequent visits to her official residence, Osborne House, on the Isle of Wight.
