Lot Essay

The composition of this lot is repeated in another drawing by a follower of Boucher sold at Christie's, South Kensington, 12 December 2003 (lot 434). The young boy in both drawings was also the subject of a 1756 etching by William Ryland entitled Paysan passant l'eau.
