Lot Essay

Built for Richard Atkinson in Randall's yard in Rotherhite, Bessborough (also know as the Earl of Bessborough) was measured at 907 tons, was 144 feet in length with a 30 ½ foot beam and was launched on 27th November 1772. Captain Thomas Riddell was appointed to command her and supervise her fitting out and when completed in 1773. she was employed in the service of The East India Company for the India trade (1773-1778).
