George Wahab was born in 1752 at Balbriggan. He joined the Honourable East India Company as a cadet in 1769. He served in the first Mysore war in 1782, and in 1790 commanded the 14th Madras Native Infantry Regiment against Tippu Sultan, and was present at his surrender. In 1808 he was made Major-General of the 17th Regiment (later the 33rd Madras Native Infantry), and died while in command of the Guntoor Division in the same year.
