Lot Essay

The present lot was originally conceived to be part of a much larger monument (the size of the Eiffel Tower) that was ultimately never realized. It was intended as a monument to modernity and the design provided for cars to drive to the top, with lifesize versions of La Nuit decorating the base.

This work will be included in the forthcoming Auguste Rodin catalogue critique de l'oeuvre sculpté currently being prepared by the Comité Rodin at Galerie Brame et Lorenceau under the direction of Jérôme Le Blay under the archive number 2007V1291B.
