AVIENUS, Rufus Festus. Opera. -ARATUS. Phaenomena. -SERENUS SAMONICUS. Medicinae liber. Edited by Victor Pisanus. Venice: Antonius de Strata, de Cremona, 25 October 1488.

4o (193 x 144 mm). 119 leaves (of 122, lacking title and final two blanks). Roman types. Numerous emblematic woodcuts of constellations, etc. in the Aratus. (Some light spotting and soiling.) Later half vellum. Provenance: Lyons Academy (stamp on first leaf); J. Geel (stamp on first leaf dated 1843).

The woodcuts occur in the Phaenomena of Aratus, a scientific poem describing the rising and setting of the stars. They are in part reversed copies of the cuts in the 1485 Hyginus by Ratdolt and are apparently from blocks previously used by T. de Blavis. BMC V, 294; GW 3131; HC 2224; Goff A-1243.
