Lot Essay

These two works are from the 'Images of Imaginations' series, which took Bahman Jalali three years to complete between 2003 to 2006. In this series, Jalali juxtaposes flowers, Iranian motifs, and occasionally Persian calligraphy with black and white photos which he discovered from the history of Iranian photography. Jalali was the curator of the first museum of photography in Iran and single handedly paved the way for photography to be an acceptable form of art, inspiring a generation of Iranian photographers.
