Lot Essay

The drawing of a seated woman was part of a group of drawings assembled in the 19th century by a member of the immediate entourage of Baron Vivant-Denon until is was sold and dispersed in 1989 (see provenance). The group possibly was intended as a memorial to Vivant-Denon's achievements and his large circle of acquaintances.
