Lot Essay

A version of this drawing is at Amsterdam, M. Roethlisberger, Bartholomäus Breenbergh, Handzeichnungen, Berlin, 1969, no. 124, illustrated. Professor Roethlisberger does not accept the present drawing as authograph. However the incising and the near identical size of the print would suggest that this, rather than the Amsterdam sheet, is a preparatory study for the etching
