The present drawing was probably executed from nature around 1626 (Roethlisberger, op. cit., no. 76). Later in his career, Breenbergh would use a similar view in the background in two paintings: Landscape with Elijah and the widow of Zarephath in the Fondation Custodia, Paris and Landscape with Elisha and the Children in the Kunsthalle, Bremen (see M. Roethlisberger, Bartholomeus Breenbergh: The Paintings, Berlin, New York, 1981, nos. 127, 151).
