Lot Essay

Francesco Borgia (1510-1572) was the first son of Duke Giovanni Borgia. He was educated in the Court of Emperor Charles V and married Eleonora de Castro, with whom he had eight children. In 1542 he succeeded his Father and became Duke of Borgia, however, following his wife's death, he renounced his Duchy and became a Priest in 1551. In 1671 he was canonized by Pope Clement X.
