Sold with a photocopy of a letter from the artist: '7. May 1974/The picture was painted/in my own garden in Battersea/last February. It is one of a/series - my garden especially in/Winter, seems to offer infinite/sources for pictures. All sorts/of things have happened and a/broken trellis is a rather mild/event compared with other versions/that include Ghosts, Murders, rapes/and domestic dramas of all sorts./I do hope you will enjoy having/the picture/Yours/Carel'.
