D’un artiste à la production graphique rare, cette feuille est préparatoire aux deux anges qui ornent le décor de la XVIIe chapelle du Sacro Monte d’Orta (F. M. Ferro, Nuvolone. Una famiglia di pittori nella Milano del’600, Soncino 2003, pp. 509-515), projet familial qui fut repris par son frère Giuseppe immédiatement après la mort de Carlo Francesco survenue le 1er août 1661. L’ange de gauche a également été utilisé pour la figure d’un Enfant Jésus dans une peinture aujourd’hui en collection privée (ibid., p. 398, fig. 80b). Selon Filippo Maria Ferro, la date inscrite en haut de la feuille fait référence à l'inventaire de l'atelier de l'artiste rédigé le 26 août 1661.

The work of a rare draughtsman, this sheet was made in preparation for two angels that are part of the decoration of the seventeenth chapel of Sacro Monte di Orta (F. M. Ferro, Nuvolone. Una famiglia di pittori nella Milano del’600, Soncino 2003, pp. 509-515), a family project taken over by his brother Giuseppe directly after Carlo Francesco’s death on 1 August 1661. The angel at left was also used for a Christ Child in a painting now in a private collection (op. cit., p. 398, fig. 80b). According to Filippo Maria Ferro, the date inscribed at the top on the sheet refers to the inventory made of the artist’s estate on 26 August 1661.
