Charles Cary Rumsey, a native to New York, studied in Boston, Massachusetts, at the Boston Art School and later in Paris with Bela Pratt and Paul Wayland Bartlett. His work is in esteemed collections including the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York, and can be found in public works, including friezes he was commissioned to make for the Manhattan Bridge. The inscription 'M.H.R.,' on the present work, are the initials of the artist's wife.
