Lot Essay

Mackintosh had planned to go to Paestum on 11 April but the continuing rain forced him to spend more time in Naples. He records that he found Certosa di San Martino 'one of the most interesting places in Naples.' He made several entries in his diary praising the quality of the craftsmanship of frescoes and carved stalls as well as 'a very nice well in cloister.'
