Mackintosh visited the Palazzo Pubblico on 11 May. In his diary he wrote: 'Some of the Palaces, especially Publico [sic] are very interesting. Chapel in connection with Publico, some wood stalls. Iron screene &c. Some very good iron torch bearers.'
