Lot Essay

A view of the fort at Port Vendres, drawn in 1926-27 from the east side of the bay. Mackintosh was living in Port Vendres during most of 1926 and 1927 when he made a number of watercolours of the town, its harbour and this fort, which is flanked on one side by a steep ravine and on the other by the rocky coastline.
