Lot Essay

During 1925 the Mackintoshes made a tour of the Pyrenees following the course of the railway from Perpignan to Bourg-Madame. Mackintosh had made detailed drawings of flowers since his student days, culminating in a large group of pencil and watercolour studies produced at Walberswick in 1914-15. He seems to have made very few such drawings while he was living in France from 1923-27; only four survive, three from Mont Louis in 1925 and one from Amélie-les-Bains of 1924, the other three being in public collections.
