Lot Essay

A 1/12 scale drawing; it is not known whether any piece was executed from this drawing. When Margaret Macdonald's niece, Mrs Dunderdale, left Dunglass (the Macdonald family home), circa 1960, much of its furniture passed to the National Museum of Antiquities of Scotland, Edinburgh or was kept by the family, but no wardrobe corresponding to this design was recorded at this time. However, other pieces of Mackintosh furniture for Dunglass Castle, which are known to have been made, were also unrecorded when the family moved out.
