Lot Essay

A painter and illustrator as well as a sculptor, Charles R. Knight studied at the Art Students League in New York. An animalier, he is perhaps best known in New York for his murals of prehistoric animals and men at the American Museum of Natural History where he worked under Carl Akeley.
