Murray was the Art Editor and Design Manager of Blackie & Son Ltd., Glasgow. Charles Robinson, R.I. (1870-1937) Son of Thomas Robinson, the London wood engraver, and brother of Thomas Heath and William Heath Robinson, Charles Robinson trained at the Highbury School of Art, briefly attended the Royal Academy schools and then worked as an apprentice at Waterlow & Sons, as a lithographer. Robinson's fluid style combined with his decorative and elaborate borders owed much to Durer and the Pre-Raphaelites. It was a style that appealed to the Edwardian public, and rendered him one of the most popular artists working in black and white at the time. In 1895, Robinson's drawings were published in the Studio and in R.L. Stevenson's A Child's Garden of Verses. Other books that he illustrated included Aesop's Fables (1895) and The Big Book of Nursery Rhymes (1903), some illustrations from which are offered below. Robinson's skill and contribution to the arts was officially recognised on his election to the position of President of the London Sketch Club. He was subsequently made an R.I. in 1932.
