Lot Essay

In 1496 the city of Groningen was considered to be an authority of all social and gouverning institutions in the Friese Landen; some towns however resented a truce, amongst them Franeker. In June 1496 the Groningers sent thousands of armed men to Franeker, but failed to overthrow the town.
